Dead Space keeps on living in our hearts. The Callisto Protocol has been released and after finishing it at the end of my playthrough that roughly took 10 hours, it is safe to say that it is a heartbreaking disappointment. The premium AAA horror we have been waiting for was finally on the horizon. The game kept getting marketed as a horror title. Glen Schofield, the game’s director, talked a bunch of times about how he and the team understood horror, and how they knew how to make an effective, scary horror experience. It was the original Dead Space director with possibly more people from the original crew. For the last year though, we have been seeing a small movement in the AAA horror industry and with more new IPs and remakes to look forward to next year, The Callisto Protocol was possibly one of the most exciting horror titles that everyone had been waiting for. For a very long time, we haven’t been getting any new horror games except the Resident Evil series. It leverages the available technology to deliver stunningly amazing graphics, which further elevates its status in both horror and science fiction circles.The AAA horror scene has been long dormant. By building on the limited action capabilities and leaving the player feeling helpless for a good part of the game, it manages to drive fear while also stressing the need for a methodical gameplay approach.
Overall, The Callisto Protocol delivers a memorable sci-fi horror experience. Accept that you will fail a couple of times and the entire game becomes more bearable. Additionally, it also includes certain puzzles that need to be solved-with some of these puzzles being unusually difficult. However, action-focused fans might not receive the game well because of its lack of fighting mechanics, at least for a good part of the early game. At certain points in the game, these creatures look realistic, making the game more immersive. Additionally, the characters in this game are well-designed, especially the monsters. Its location is extremely detailed and there are a couple of elements that offer lore or interaction in ways you were not expecting-making it necessary to keep an open eye. These elements create a mixture of organic and cybernetic, and each of them presents unique challenges.Īs mentioned, its graphics alone is enough reason for players to check it out. Similarly, there are also machines and augmented humans who serve as the wardens of the location. This location is soon invaded by alien-like creatures who start attacking inmates and other personnel. The premise for The Callisto Protocol revolves around the seemingly mundane life of Jacob, an inmate brought to Black Iron Prison.
